Rockies manager Bud Black named German Marquez as the team’s opening day starter when it takes on Texas this Friday in Arlington.
In doing so, the right-hander will become the 20th pitcher to start on opening day in the Rockies’ 28-year history. Here’s a look at how the past 10 have fared:
| Year | Pitcher | Line (Opp.) — Team Result | ||
| 2019 | Kyle Freeland | 7IP, 2H, 1ER, 1BB, 5K (at Miami) — Win | ||
| Season: Promising start led to lost year as K-Free went 3-11 with 6.73 ERA and was demoted. | ||||
| 2018 | Jon Gray | 4IP, 6H, 3ER, 3BB, 4K (at Arizona) — Loss | ||

| 2013 | Jhoulys Chacin | 6.2IP, 3H, 1ER, 3BB, 6K (at Milwaukee) — Loss | ||

| 2012 | Jeremy Guthrie | 7IP, 4H, 3ER, 3BB, 1K (at Houston) — Win | ||
| Season: The worst of an abysmal rotation, Guthrie went 3-9 with 6.35 ERA and disastrous 1.69 WHIP. | ||||
| 2011 | Ubaldo Jimenez | 6IP, 7H, 5ER, 1BB, 1K (Arizona) — Loss | ||
