Eastbound Interstate 70 reopens after brief closure as snow hits mountains

Travelers are warned to avoid the mountain highways

Eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the Eisenhower Tunnel reopened Sunday afternoon after a brief closure caused by rocks falling in the road, .

The department closed the lanes about 2:30 p.m. and said travelers should expect delays. The lanes were reopened about 20 minutes later.

The closure came as snow fell on Colorado’s central mountains. The National Weather Service warned travelers to stay away from I-70 if possible. The weather service also for several northern Colorado communities, including Greeley and Fort Collins, where winds could gust up to 65 mph.
