The governor’s decisions
Re: “Governors’ power infringes,” Dec. 23 letter to the editor
Perhaps it is because of the “power-loving” governor’s actions that the number of COVID cases in Colorado have been reduced. This is not politics; this is protecting people from a deadly virus.

An open letter to Gov. Polis:
First, I think your handling of the social, legal and economic issues of the COVID pandemic in Colorado has been exemplary. Thanks!
But I have a fundamental objection to your forthcoming vaccine priority: Teachers, especially mature teachers, should be at the top of the priority list, just below medical workers. Thatap how schools and universities can safely reopen their classrooms, which I believe is critical for the education (and probably the sanity) of students, parents and their teachers.
Teachers are a critical group in society, and classroom education is critical to the welfare of all society.
(Properly biased: I am a very old teacher who is still teaching)

Unrelated clauses …
Re: “Virus aid: Trump wants changes to bill,” Dec. 23 news story
Enough is enough; the second paragraph of the article starts with “The president, who has been preoccupied with the baseless claim that the election was stolen … .” This is not news journalism, and it had nothing to do with the article; but any chance to get a dig in, right? I don’t know if the claims are baseless or not; thatap for the courts to decide. Please leave outside opinions to the op-ed page.

Personal causes
What on earth are our alleged representatives trying to shove down our throats. A pork-filled, so-called relief bill that is thousands of pages long full of their personal agendas and next to nothing for the citizens who have to pay it back. Why would a package like this include a penny to a foreign country? Too much of this disgrace is slated to go to overseas, not to the American people who are in need and will be responsible for repaying it.
I say anyone who had a hand in this should be dismissed from their government job and replaced immediately with someone who is actually willing to do what is right for the citizens they allegedly swore to represent and do the right thing for. You’re nothing but thieves with a personal agenda who are trying to get rich quick on the backs of us who you lied to protect with your oath of office.

Why the nay votes?
Re: “Virus aid: House, Senate pass bill,” Dec. 22 news story
Three Colorado Republican congressmen, Ken Buck, Doug Lamborn, and Scott Tipton, voted against the COVID relief package. I’m sure all who voted for them will return the checks they’ll receive to the U.S. Treasury as a matter of personal integrity, right? Right?
Lee Patton, Denver
