Pedestrian hit by vehicle on U.S. Highway 85 in Commerce City dies at the scene

A pedestrian died early Monday morning in Commerce City when she was hit by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 85, police said.

The incident happened at about 3:15 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the highway just south of East 120th Avenue, said Deputy Chief Dennis Moon, a police spokesman.

The pedestrian died at the scene. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators, Moon said.

Police do not know why the woman was walking on the highway. An investigation is ongoing. It is the first fatal automobile incident in Commerce City in 2021.

Northbound lanes of the highway reopened at about 8:45 a.m., police said.
