On the mound: Right-hander Jon Gray made his first start of spring, allowing one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts across 2 2/3 innings. … Righty Yency Almonte, bidding for a role as a late-inning reliever, continued his excellent spring, tossing a scoreless inning. He has not allowed a run in three appearances.
At the plate: Veteran C.J. Cron, making a solid bid to be the starting first baseman, tied the game 1-1 with a solo home run in the seventh inning. In nine games, Cron is batting .280 (7-for-25) with two doubles and two home runs.
Worth noting: Sam Hilliard, auditioning for the starting job in center field, batted 1-for-3 and stole his fourth base, tied for the most in the Cactus League.
