Dodgers 12, Rockies 5
Monday at Salt River Fields
On the mound: Right-hander Jose Mujica, trying to push for a spot in the rotation at some point, got roughed up by the Dodgers, who reached him for four runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings. … Jordan Sheffield, a Rule 5 Draft acquisition, needed a solid outing after command issues early in camp. He produced, pitching a clean inning with two strikeouts.
At the plate: Center field candidate Sam Hilliard hit an RBI double in the first inning and is batting .296. … Yonathan Daza, who is out of minor-league options, relieved Charlie Blackmon in right field and went 2-for-2, boosting his average to .375. He’s trying to play himself onto the 26-man roster.
Worth noting: Josh Fuentes, getting the start at third base on a day when Ryan McMahon played second, delivered two gorgeous plays on infield nubbers, including a barehand grab-and-throw that looked a lot like the play his cousin Nolan Arenado used to make in a Rockies uniform.
Up next: Rockies (7-7-1) at Reds (4-10), 7:05 p.m. (MDT) Tuesday, Goodyear Ballpark
Rockies pitchers: RHP Chi Chi González, LHP Ryan Rolison, RHP Scott Oberg, RHP Carlos Estévez, RHP Robert Stephenson
