By fall, Coloradans could be enjoying honey butter chicken biscuits, honey barbecue chicken strip sandwiches and other combinations from the Texas fast-food favorite, Whataburger.
Whataburger has submitted plans to build a new Colorado store at the Interquest Marketplace in North Colorado Springs (not far from the Springs’ first In-N-Out), on Wednesday.
According to the proposal, construction would start in summer and the restaurant would open by fall.
This isn’t the first time Whataburger has opened up shops in the Centennial State; the burger brand was around back in the ’70s, according to several online sources.
“While Whataburger will be in Colorado Springs for the first time, we did have a few restaurants in the state several decades ago,” Whataburger told The Denver Post in a statement. “We’re looking forward to returning to Colorado and bringing our famous burgers and extraordinary customer service to our fans in Colorado Springs.”
Last August, that would begin a national tour in 2021, though it wasn’t clear if the truck would stop in Colorado. Now it’s unclear how many brick-and-mortar stores are planned for the state.
Founded in 1950, Whataburger now operates more than 800 restaurants in 10 states. Its locations are open 24 hours, selling “fresh-never-frozen beef burgers,” and other delights on tortillas, biscuits and Texas toast.
