The shooting happened about 2:35 a.m., and the frightened driver kept driving and exited the highway, said Kurt Barnes, a Denver police spokesman.
She eventually was pulled over by an officer on Speer Boulevard near I-25 because she was driving “a bit erratic,” Barnes said.
Investigators have determined that a shot was fired at the vehicle on Sixth Avenue. A bullet passed through a window of the vehicle and through the driver’s headrest, Barnes said. The woman, who was in the vehicle with her husband, pulled the bullet out of her hair.
She was taken by ambulance to a hospital, Barnes said. She was not found to have life-threatening wounds.
Investigators do not know who fired the shot. “It was a random act,” Barnes said.
Police urge nearby residents and drivers who use the busy stretch of highway to be alert and report any suspicious activity.
