Straight Creek fire: Firefighters hope to fully contain wildfire near Silverthorne on Sunday

An eight-acre fire that briefly shut down eastbound I-70 near Silverthorne last week was 80% contained Saturday is expected to be fully contained by the end of the day Sunday, fire officials said.

About 45 firefighters are working on the Straight Creek fire, which is burning close to the interstate about two miles east of Dillon, between the Eisenhower Tunnel and Silverthorne,

The fire closed I-70’s eastbound lanes on Thursday evening, but the road has since reopened. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
