A fire to the north of Denver sent a plume of dark smoke into the air between interstates 70 and 270 Sunday afternoon.

The blaze, which was reported as a grass fire at 1:38 p.m., was burning near E. 56th Avenue and Dahlia Street in Commerce City. The fire spread to pallets and a nearby railroad cart, according to South Adams Fire. No one was hurt and the fire was brought under control.

The smoke from the fire was “pretty significant,” and visible for some distance, South Adams Fire spokeswoman Maria Carabajal said.

Firefighters from South Adams Fire, Adams County Fire and the Denver Fire Department worked the blaze.
