Zachary Lokken, Durango
Specialty: MC-1 Slalom
Age: 27
Lokken started canoeing at 7 years old because his older brothers, William and Joshua, used to paddle. His parents, Angela and Eric Lokken, were involved in judging competitions, including Eric, who was the chief official judge for the World Championships and Olympics. His brother William is now an official for canoe slalom racing and will officiate his second Olympics this year. Lokken moved to Charlotte, N.C., to attend college and train full-time at the U.S. National Whitewater Center with the U.S. national team. He made his first senior final in the 2013 U-23 World Championships, in Pau, France, one of his favorite paddling courses because of the fast moving water and whitewater features. That same year, he won gold in the C1 Pan American Championships, his first of two. In 2019, Lokken finished first in canoe slalom at the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru at 1 minute, 30.66 seconds.
Competing: July 25-26
