CSU Rams quarterback Matt Valecce out for the season

Colorado State is going to be down a quarterback this season after junior Matt Valecce suffered a season-ending injury, Rams head coach Steve Addazio said Saturday.

Valecce, who , suffered a “lower-body injury” in practice earlier in the week, , who were first to report the story.

“We have to worry about our backup quarterback situation right now,” . “We’ve got to come up with a backup quarterback, and that got a little distractful today.”

The 6-foot-5, 225-pound quarterback was a member of Addazio’s Eagles roster from 2018-19. Coming out of high school, he was a top-rated quarterback out of New York by 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN. He has appeared in six games, completing 3 of 7 passes for 27 yards.

The injury is a hit to CSU’s quarterback depth behind starter Todd Centeio, a redshirt senior. The Rams have three other quarterbacks on the roster: redshirt sophomore Jonah O’Brien and true freshmen Evan Olaes and Giles Pooler.
