Man shot dead in Broomfield ID’d; police search for suspect

A Broomfield resident who was shot dead Wednesday morning had interrupted a crime in progress, police said.

Michael Lewis, 71, of the Sunridge neighborhood, was identified Thursday as the victim in the case.

About 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to the 2200 block of Sunridge Circle near U.S. 287 and Miramonte Boulevard on reports of a disturbance and shots fired. When they arrived, they found Lewis dead in a parking lot.

Several vehicle break-ins were reported in the area early Wednesday. Investigators continue to look for a suspect, or suspects, in the case.
