Be on the lookout for nighttime roadwork in the Glenwood Canyon area of Interstate 70 this week as the Colorado Department of Transportation repairs part of the roadway that was damaged by mudslides over the summer.
CDOT will close the eastbound lanes of I-70 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday and Friday at exit 116 (Glenwood Springs). Westbound lanes will remain open, but motorists should be aware of a permanent one-lane, half-mile closure at mile point 123.5 (Blue Gulch). Mudslides and material-related slides on July 29 and 31 caused considerable damage at that portion of the interstate.
Crews will rebuild the eastbound retaining wall that supports the eastbound lanes, CDOT wrote in a news release Tuesday. The agency has set a Thanksgiving deadline for all lanes to be open.
Eastbound motorists are advised to take a detour at northbound Colorado 13 in Rifle to Craig, east on U.S. 40 to Steamboat Springs over Rabbit Ears Pass to Kremmling, then southbound Colorado 9 to Silverthorne.
