The Ptarmigan fire, which has burned 86 acres, is now 20% contained, according to fire officials.

About 300 firefighters are working on the fire, northeast of Silverthorne, and Friday efforts emphasized shoring up protection of two most at risk neighborhoods, a news release said.

Hand crews built fire containment lines on Friday and structure-protection crews patrolled the Hamilton Creek and upper Angler Mountain neighborhoods.

Residential areas near the fire remain under a pre-evacuation status, residents should be prepared to flee at a moment’s notice. The entire burn area and the trails leading into it – including the Angler Mountain and Ptarmigan trails – are under a U.S. Forest Service closure. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

There’s a 20% chance of thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday in the area and overnight low temperatures will be below freezing, according to the National Weather Service.

Smoke is likely to be visible from the interior of the fire over the weekend.
