The westbound lanes of Interstate 70 between the Eisenhower Tunnel and Silverthorne reopened Wednesday afternoon after a five-vehicle crash that killed at least one person, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The closure, initially in both directions, was reported by the Colorado Department of Transportation just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, when a semitrailer caught fire in the westbound lanes.
CSP said they responded to the crash at 10:47 p.m. Tuesday. They do not know the extent of the injuries of the other people involved in the wreck.
CDOT said in a release that crews cleared debris and assessed damage, and repairs, on a westbound I-70 bridge. U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass was the detour route when I-70 was shut down.
CSP was on the scene investigating the incident Wednesday morning. The eastbound lanes of I-70 reopened at about 11 a.m. Wednesday.
