NEDERLAND, CO – NOVEMBER 9 – A skidder pulls cut trees off of Eldora mountain as crews work hard before opening day at Eldora ski area on Nov. 9, 2017 in Nederland. Powdr Corp, Eldora’s new owners, have invested $10 million over the summer into the resort, more than the last 25 years combined. The improvements include a 6 person high speed chairlift called The Alpenglow which will get skiers and snowboarders to the top in 4 1/2 minutes, 1/3 the time from the old lifts. Also done was a complete renovation of Timbers Lodge and the rental and demo gear area inside the lodge. New signs have been made throughout with the company’s new Alpenglow color. The company also has updated the food at the resort using a local chef to create new menus for the restaurants at the resort.

A 72-year-old skier died Tuesday in a collision with a snowboarder at the Eldora Ski Area.

The collision happened at about 11 a.m. on the “Windmill” ski run, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. Responders found the skier “unconscious and not breathing.”

Ski patrol staff carried out resuscitative measures, including CPR, and a medical helicopter was on standby, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. At 11:43 a.m., the skier, from Boulder, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Windmill is an intermediate run.

The snowboarder, a Wellington man, was interviewed by investigators after he was treated for injuries suffered in the collision, the sheriff’s office said. “No criminal charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.”

The identity of the Boulder man was not released Tuesday.
