Today, May 18th, 2011, Congressman Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) honored Ross Donald Stensgaard, an 83 year-old Korean War Veteran, by presenting him with a Purple Heart medal for wounds he received during combat military barrage. He received a total of four individual medals for his service. The Purple Heart is the oldest and most prestitgous of military awards. It is awarded to any person wounded or killed in action while serving in any military actions of any of our armed services. He also received the National Defense medal, the United Nations medal and the Korean Service Medal. Perlmutter presented the medal to Stensgaard with Brigadier General Sal Villano, USAF, Ret. Also present were members of his family. Stensgaard served with an infantry unit from Nov. 8, 1950 - Oct. 7, 1951. After his combat tour in Korea, Stensgaard spent a full career in the airline industry working for Western Airlines and Delta airlines in customer service. For the last 18 years, Mr. Stensgaard continues to work for the Denver car auction three days a week.
