A gas can inside a milk carton with wires running from a natural gas line to inside the suspicious package was found Friday morning behind a bank in Edgewater.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad checked out the device and deemed it “safe,” according to police.

The suspicious device was found behind a Chase Bank, 1705 Sheridan Blvd., police said in a 9:01 a.m. Twitter post. Police asked that people stay away from the area and nearby businesses were evacuated as a safety precaution.

The bomb squad deemed the area safe at about 10:45 a.m., police said.
