Two defendants have been charged with murder in the December shooting death of a man in Thornton.

Jonathan Garcia, 19, and Matthew McMahon, 18, are being held on suspicion of first-degree murder for the death of Fernando Perez, according to police.

On Dec. 3, Perez agreed to meet the pair regarding a clothing sale, police said in a news release. Perez was shot in the area of 101st Avenue and Clayton Street during a robbery.

The suspects also face charges of second-degree murder, aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravate robbery, according to the district attorney’s office. Garcia’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 8, and McMahon’s next appearance is on Feb. 23.
