A man was shot and killed by Aurora police officers early Friday morning after he was said to be armed and knocking on doors of an apartment complex.

Police said they responded to the 1300 block of North Idalia Court after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls just after 4:30 a.m. reporting a man with unknown intentions walking around with a gun. When they got to the scene they used both English and Spanish commands, a spokesperson for the Aurora Police Department said later Friday morning.

Two officers fired at the man, prompting an immediate call for medics and a transport to the hospital where the man died, according to Aurora police.

The 18th Judicial District’s Critical Incident Response Team is handling the investigation and two APD officers have been placed on administrative leave. Officials claim that the body cameras of each officer were on during the incident and will be used in the investigation. A gun was recovered at the scene, police say.

The spokesperson for APD said he wasn’t sure if the man, who was in his 30s, fired his gun at any point.

Investigators released limited information initially when they first reported the shooting near Colfax Avenue and Chambers Road.
