A 33-year-old man has died after he crashed his pickup truck and ended up on the light-rail tracks Sunday morning in Aurora, according to a news release from Aurora police.

The Aurora 911 center received a report of the crash at about 6:01 a.m. in the 2600 block of South Abliene Street. According to the report, first responders discovered a silver Dodge Ram turned on its side on the tracks located just west of the street. The driver of the vehicle was sent to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believed the man was driving northbound along Abilene Street when he went off the left side of the road onto the sidewalk and into an office building’s parking lot. From there, he continued through the parking lot and then through two fences before dropping 6 feet onto the tracks.

Police believe alcohol is a factor in the crash.

The name of the driver will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office after he is positively identified and his next of kin notified.
