And Americans certainly work hard, averaging 1,767 hours per year of work, which is 169 hours more than the average in Japan, 400 more than the average in the U.K. and 435 more than the average in Germany, .
In their research, WalletHub also found Denver is the 17th hardest-working city in the country.
WalletHub compared the 116 largest U.S. cities across 11 key metrics to determine which cities outwork the rest of America. The data set they used ranges from the employment rate to average weekly work hours to the share of workers with multiple jobs.

WalletHub’s study included direct and indirect work factors over a 100-point scale, the highest being the hardest working. They made sure to include at least one city from each state. The city only represents the city proper and excludes the surrounding metro area.
