Bundled against subzero temperatures, a woman walks a pair of dogs around the lake in Washington Park as the first of a pair of winter storms sweeps over the intermountain West Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022, in Denver. Forecasters predict that the frigid temperatures will persist with periods of light snow through the work week.

Most Denver metro residents woke up to between one and four inches of snow Sunday morning, and another few inches are expected to fall steadily throughout the day Sunday.

Residents can expect to see snowfall into the early evening Sunday, with another two to three inches of the white stuff falling by dark, said Robert Koopmeiners, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Boulder.

That means much of the metro will end the weekend with three to seven inches of snow.

“The snow is light and fluffy,” he said.

After a break Sunday night, there’s a chance the snow could pick back up a bit Monday before a second significant storm system moves into the area Wednesday, Koopmeiners said.

That midweek storm is expected to bring around one to five inches of additional snowfall along with some extra cold temperatures, Koopmeiners said. Temperatures could drop to zero in Denver Thursday night into Friday morning, he said.
