NEW YORK — Avalanche forward Tyson Jost, despite suffering a broken jaw and having significant dental/tissue repairs over the weekend, is cleared to play against the New York Islanders on Monday night at USB Arena.

Jost blocked a shot to his face in Saturday night’s 4-3 overtime loss to visiting Calgary. While walking to the visiting dressing room after Monday’s morning skate, he said he fractured his jaw and many of his front teeth caved in. He underwent several procedures late Saturday night and Sunday morning before traveling to New York with the rest of the team.

Jost will play in a “fishbowl” face mask.

Hybrid defenseman Kurtis MacDermid, who played forward against the Flames, will be Colorado’s lone healthy scratch to begin a consecutive-night stretch to begin a three-game eastern road trip. The Avs visit the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday and the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.

Darren Helm, who was a healthy scratch against Calgary, will return on the fourth line.

Pavel Francouz will start in net against the Islanders, opposing former Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov.
