Platte Valley’s Schissler sisters came out firing from beyond the arc and never stopped.

The sisters led Platte Valley to its second consecutive Class 3A title girls basketball championship, 70-50, over University at the University of Denver on Saturday. Andi Schissler had 29 points, while Cora had 13.

“It’s exciting and a bit crazy to think that’s our last game playing together,” Andi Schissler said. “It’s not just Cora, it’s everybody. It’s a fun group of people to play with. We talked about being the team that we know that we are.”

After University took its only lead of the game at 6-3 the sisters teamed up. Andi, a junior, answered the bell first with five points, then her sister, Cora, a senior, responded with the first quarter’s final nine points including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. Platte Valley led 21-8 with the Schisslers combining for 18 points.

The Broncos led 41-19 at halftime and had seven three-pointers. University got a strong performance from Addison Harding, who scored eight of the Bulldogs’ 10 second-quarter points. She finished with 20 points.

The Broncos extended their lead to as much as 30 points in the second as Andi Schissler scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs answered back admirably with their own 10-0 run in the game’s final few minutes.

Platte Valley, which won its 40th consecutive game, remained undefeated all-time in state championship games at 5-0, with previous wins coming in 2021, 2004, 2001 and 1987.

For Cora Schissler, lifting a state title with Andi was a fitting way to cap off her career.

“I had nothing to lose, so I went out and gave it my all,” Cora said. “The juniors and seniors have played together since we were in fourth grade, so it’s just super special to go out like that.”
