Angels 7, Rockies 4
Tuesday at Tempe Diablo Stadium
On the mound: Left-hander Kyle Freeland, unveiling his new changeup, gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits over three innings. He set the Angels down in order in the first two innings. … Right-hander Ashton Goudeau, who has a good shot to make the roster, possibly as a long reliever, pitched two scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out one and walking one.
At the plate: In his first Cactus League at-bat in a Rockies uniform, Kris Bryant steered a single to left-center. … Outfield prospect Bret Boswell continues to open eyes, going 2 for 3 with a two-out RBI. … Brendan Rodgers, playing his first game after sitting out with a sore lower back, lashed a double.
Worth noting: The Rockies brought over a lineup of major leaguers to face the Angels and manager Bud Black said it’s possible the lineup could look much the same during the regular season. Tuesday, Charlie Blackmon led off, followed by Bryant, Ryan McMahon, C.J. Cron and Brendan Rodgers. Conner Joe was the designated hitter, batting seventh.
Up next: Royals (3-0) at Rockies (3-3), 2:10 p.m. (MDT) Wednesday, Salt River Fields
Rockies pitchers: LHP Ty Blach, RHP Justin Lawrence, RHP Zach Lee, RHP Nate Griep, RHP JD Hammer, RHP Jordan Sheffield, LHP Ben Bowden
