Adams County Commissioner Charles “Chaz” Tedesco missed the primary ballot in the race for the 8th Congressional District by the closest of margins, failing to reach the required threshold by less than 1 percent during Tuesday night’s Democratic congressional assembly.
State Rep. Yadira Caraveo is set to be the sole Democratic nominee in the race for Colorado’s newest congressional district, though Tedesco has the right to request a review of Tuesday’s delegate vote count, according to a spokeswoman for the Colorado Democrats.
Caraveo received 70.720% of the delegate vote to Tedesco’s 29.279%. A candidate must get 30% to qualify for the ballot.
A request for comment from the Tedesco campaign was not immediately returned Wednesday.
On the Republican side of the race, there are four candidates facing off in the June 28 primary.
The 8th Congressional District covers parts of Adams, Weld and Larimer counties and stretches from Commerce City in the south to Greeley in the north. It was formed by the state’s new redistricting commission last year to respond to Colorado’s growing population.
