Three days shy of his 34th birthday, safety Kareem Jackson agreed to a one-year contract Thursday to remain with the Broncos.

Jackson has started all 44 of his appearances since joining the Broncos in 2019 after nine years with the Houston Texans.

Last year, Jackson played 15 games and had 88 tackles and one interception in 897 snaps. According to The Denver Postap game charting, he missed a team-high 14 missed tackles, eight more than any other teammate.

Now that Jackson is still in the fold, the Broncos could wait until the middle-to-late rounds (4-7) to address safety or lean on second-year players Caden Sterns and Jamar Johnson and newcomer J.R. Reed to provide depth and special teams play.

Jackson entered the NFL as a first-round draft pick (No. 20 overall) in 2010 by the Texans and was a cornerback for nearly all of his tenure with the Texans (559 tackles and 16 interceptions in 132 games). He signed with the Broncos and switched to safety.

Among the Broncos’ 17 unrestricted free agents to hit the market last month, Jackson joins inside linebacker Josey Jewell as the only players to stay with the team.
