Admission will be free at America’s national parks on Saturday, the second of five free days in the system this year. And better yet, it comes before Rocky Mountain National Park’s requirement for timed entry reservations goes into effect on Memorial Day weekend.

Saturday’s freebie begins what the park service is calling National Park Week, although it actually runs nine days through Sunday, April 24. It’s also timed to celebrate Earth Day on April 22.

Several special events are planned at Rocky Mountain National Park, including informational booths and interactive Junior Ranger activities.

Admission also will be free Saturday at Colorado’s other national parks, which are Mesa Verde, Great Sand Dunes and Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Camping fees will remain in effect. Ordinarily, the entry fee is $25 per vehicle ($15 for walk-ins and cyclists).

The other free days via the national park service are Jan. 17, MLK Day; Aug. 4, the anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act; Sept. 24, National Public Lands Day; and Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

Rocky Mountain National Park’s timed entry reservation requirement goes into effect on May 27 and runs through Oct. 10.
