Ute Pass fire update: Wildfire is 10% contained, and mandatory evacuations are lifted

Mandatory evacuations have been lifted for residents near the Ute Pass fire outside of Durango on Friday night as a wildfire is 10% contained.

First reported by , an evacuation notice was lifted at 8:50 p.m., nearly three hours after the order was issued. About 60 homes in the Ute Pass subdivision and several homes on County Road 237 have been evacuated, according to La Plata County.

Multiple firefighting agencies are responding to the fire, according to Durango Fire Rescue, and crews will remain on the scene throughout the night.

The fire is burning in the Horse Gulch area northeast of Durango. About 100 firefighters are working on the fire, according to Durango officials.

Aircraft were dropping water and fire retardant on the fire Friday evening. Residents in the Ute Pass West area remain on pre-evacuation notice.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no immediate reports of homes destroyed or people injured.
