A teenage suspect in the stabbing of a correctional officer in the Lakeside area was captured about four hours after the incident.

The 17-year-old was taken into custody in the area of West 43rd Avenue and Eaton Street, which was in the perimeter of a shelter in place order, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Juan Ocegueda allegedly stabbed the officer while at a dentist’s office, the sheriff’s office said. He fled the scene and was identified as a juvenile escapee from Platte Valley Youth Services Center in a sent around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The correctional officer who was stabbed multiple times did not suffer life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said. He is expected to be treated and released from the hospital on Tuesday.

After the stabbing, there was a heavy police presence in the nearby area with officers conducting yard-to-yard searches. As of about 12:30 p.m., the shelter in place order was ongoing for an area from West 44th to West 41st avenues, and Chase to Gray streets.

At 1:52 p.m., the sheriff’s office announced on Twitter that the suspect was in custody.
