The flash flood warning for the area was posted by the National Weather Service at 5:36 p.m. Wednesday. The highway was shut down as a safety concern. The warning is posted through 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The canyon includes the Grizzly Creek fire burn scar area where thunderstorms are producing heavy rain, according to the weather service. Heavy rains can result in mudslides, rockslides and debris flow.
Flash flooding in the area could be life threatening, the weather service warns.
