Prosecutors with the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday filed a first-degree murder charge against the man accused of shooting another driver on Interstate 70 during a suspected street race.

Jeremy Rocha, 20, of Commerce City, also was charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder in the June 18 shooting that killed John Jaros while he was driving on I-70 with his wife and three children.

According to a witness at the scene, a white sedan and a black sedan had been racing on I-70 at the time of the shooting, though Jaros, 37, had not been involved. Jaros was traveling east on the interstate just west of Exit 288 when he was fatally shot.

Investigators identified Rocha after interviewing multiple witnesses, police said.
