Muslims at the Colorado Muslim Society in Denver joined other members of the faithful around the world Saturday in celebrating Eid al-Adha. Also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, the holiday commemorates the willingness of the prophet Ibrahim — or Abraham, as he is known in the Bible — to sacrifice his son, Ismail, on the command of Allah, though in the end God provides him a sheep to sacrifice instead.

Eid-al-Adha also marks the end of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
