Less than a week after acquiring Alexandar Georgiev from the Rangers, the Avalanche on Sunday signed the goaltender to a three-year contract that will run through the 2024-25 NHL season.

Colorado also re-signed defenseman Jacob MacDonald to a two-year contract.
The Avs sent three draft picks — third- and fifth-round picks in last week’s draft and a third-round pick in 2023 — to acquire the 26-year-old Georgiev. The netminder from Bulgaria appeared in 33 games (28 starts) for the Rangers last season, compiling a 15-10-0-2 record with a .898 save percentage and 2.92 goals-against average.
“When he was a starter, he played really well, and he wanted a bigger opportunity, and he’s got that opportunity,” Avalanche executive vice president and general manager Joe Sakic said Thursday night at the NHL draft in Montreal. “He was looking forward to the challenge. What I like about it, he played in a big market. He was in New York. He can deal with a lot of that stuff. We’re excited for him.”
MacDonald, 29, appeared in eight games for the Avs this past season. With the Colorado Eagles in the AHL, he tallied 25 points (10 goals and 15 assists) in 33 games last season.
