A man was hospitalized with serious injuries after being shot by Larimer County sheriff’s deputies Tuesday night, authorities said.
Around 10:33 p.m. Tuesday, a deputy with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop “of a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed on South Timberline Road,” the news release said.
Rather than stopping, the vehicle allegedly turned eastbound onto East Prospect Road and then stopped near Sharp Point Drive.
The sole occupant of the vehicle — described as an adult male — left his car and produced a handgun and fired it, sheriff’s officials said.
The sheriff’s office says a second deputy arrived at the scene, and both returned fire. No deputies were injured, according to the news release, but the driver was taken to the hospital with “serious injuries.”
The Eighth Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the police shooting, with the Fort Collins Police Department serving as the lead agency.
