Epic Mountain Gear will hold its preseason ski and snowboard clearance sales event Sept. 2-11, Vail Resorts announced Wednesday.

Rival Christy Sports previously announced its Powder Daze event will be held those same dates. Both retailer chains are promising discounts of up to 60% on gear left over from last year, and previous years, in order to make room for this year’s product lines.

Epic used to call its event Ski Rex, a holdover moniker from when its stores were owned by Colorado Ski & Golf, which Vail Resorts acquired in 2010 and renamed Epic Mountain Gear in 2018. Two years ago, it retired the Ski Rex label, but the Broomfield-based company is debuting a new name this year: The Epic Drop.

According to a Vail Resorts news release, winter apparel and accessories will be discounted up to 40%, while bicycles will be discounted up to 30% as its stores clear floor space for winter inventory.

Labor Day weekend is the traditional time period for huge ski and snowboard gear sales in Colorado and kicks off the runup to the snow sports season.
