Denver weather: Gray day will bring showers and light rain, mist with patchy fog

Light rain and drizzle, with fog and mist has settled into the metro area with cooler, autumn-like weather. Skies are expected to start clearing out this evening.

In Denver rain is likely before 5 p.m. and the high temperature will top out near 51 degrees, according to the National Weather Service forecast. The chance of precipitation in Denver is 80%. Tonight there’s a 30% chance for rain, mainly before 8 p.m., and the overnight low temp will be around 44 degrees. Cloudy skies will give way to partly cloudy skies and patchy fog is expected after 3 a.m., with winds gusting to 15 mph.

In the mountains on Saturday, snow may mix with rain above 9,000-feet elevation, the weather service said. Weather in the foothills will be cool to cold, with temperatures topping out in the 40s; temps on the plains will climb into the lower 50s today.

Drier weather is expected for the region on Sunday into Monday.

On Sunday in Denver patchy fog should linger until about 10 a.m., the weather service said. Otherwise, skies will be sunny and the high temp will top out near 77 degrees. Skies will be clear overnight with a low near 51 degrees.

Skies over Denver will be sunny on Monday, according to the forecast, and the high temperature will climb to about 87 degrees.

An approaching weather system, bringing a chance for showers and thunderstorms, is expected to arrive in the region late on Tuesday into Wednesday, with the best chance for precipitation in the mountains.
