What are your top three priorities for the next legislative session?
Public Safety/crime reduction, inflation, education
The chamber may see split Democrat-Republican control next year. On what issues do you see common ground with the opposite party?
Course correction on criminal justice reform legislation. Education reform and transparency. Water conservation and protection.
What perspective or background would you bring to the chamber that is currently missing?
Former publisher for 21 years of two neighborhood newspapers, 40 years of living, working and being engaged in central Denver. Personal experience with the changes that have occurred in the past 3-4 years with the rise in crime, homelessness, and the increase in cost of housing.
What more can the state legislature do to ease housing costs across Colorado?
Reduce burdensome regulations, reduce excessive government spending to bring down inflation, incentivize rather than mandate affordable housing development.
Do you support the current law on fentanyl possession and resources for treatment?
No–I believe the current law should be revisited again (1 gram with proof to distribute). The discussion regarding treatment and resources should also include the possibility of mandatory addiction treatment for those convicted as a way to increase the probability of mastery over addiction and lowering the recidivism rate.
Leslie Herod did not return the questionnaire.
