Two suspects arrested in connection to hit-and-run crash that killed Aurora man

Two Aurora men have been arrested in connection to a hit-and-run crash that killed a man and his two dogs in August, police said.

Stephen Carter, 22, and Cullin Barnes, 45, have both been arrested on suspicion of attempting to influence a public servant, police said in a .

The charges relate to both men making false statements to investigators during the ongoing hit-and-run investigation, police said.

Jason Lyman, 41, was hit and killed at about 2:30 a.m. on August 5 near the intersection of South Reservoir Road and East Mansfield Avenue, according to police.

“Investigators determined that Cullin (Barnes), the vehicle’s owner, was inside of the vehicle at the time of the crash but denies being the driver,” according to the release. “Detectives are still waiting for other forensic evidence to determine who was actually driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.”

A reward for information leading to charges in the case remains at $10,000,  police said. Tips can be made to at  720-913-7867 (STOP).
