Phone calls will still cost 9 cents a minute

Inmate Aaron Davis uses a newly issued Securus Technologies tablet at the Downtown Detention Center in Denver on March 16, 2023. The Denver Sheriff Department partnered with Securus to provide inmates with tablets to support rehabilitative and reentry efforts. People in custody can access approved educational content, a law library, mental health resources, faith based programing and many other applications, for a cost, within a secure network including: music, games, movies and the ability to send supervised e-message and outbound phone calls to family and friends. The tablets were dispensed to all qualified inmates at the Downtown Detention Center Thursday and will be distributed to those incarcerated at the Denver County Jail. The operating system is built to function only through a secure, private infrastructure, allowing access to only approved apps etc. and do not allow access to the internet or social media. They do not have a camera and are equipped with shatterproof glass, security screws and a double shield to prevent misuse. (Photo by Andy Cross/The Denver Post)
