Colorado mountaineering legend Tom Hornbein, who left his name on Mount Everest, dies at 92

He is remembered for his humility as much as his epic Everest story

Famed mountaineer Tom Hornbein, who learned how to climb on Longs Peak and other Colorado mountains, and who later pioneered a new route on Mount Everest in 1963 on the first American Everest expedition, is shown while taking a break from bouldering on Lumpy Ridge near his home in Estes Park at age 81. Hornbein died at home on Saturday, two weeks shy of the 60th anniversary of his epic Everest ascent. (John Meyer, The Denver Post)
