The Ironman Boulder 70.3 race returns to Boulder County on Saturday.
The will include a 1.2-mile swim in Boulder Reservoir, a 56-mile bike loop and a 13.1-mile run. The race area will span from Jay Road to St. Vrain Road, and from U.S. 36 to 75th Street.
Travelers in the area can expect increased travel times and detours in the race area. Residents will be able to access their homes, but could experience delays and are advised to follow suggested detours. The Boulder County Sheriff, Colorado State Patrol and volunteer traffic marshals will help direct traffic through the area.
When passing bicyclists, motorists are required to allow at least three feet of space between their vehicle and a cyclist. Drivers may also cross double yellow center lines if needed when oncoming traffic is clear.
The bike course will be active between 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will go along Colo. 119, North 63rd Street, Monarch Road, Jay Road, U.S. 36 (northbound), St. Vrain Road, North 75th Street, North 73rd Street and 71st Street. Travelers are advised not to cross the course, and to use southbound U.S. 36 or North 75th Street, northbound Colo. 66 and Hygiene Road to get around the bike course.
Travelers are advised not to cross on Niwot Road, Nelson Road, St. Vrain Road, Plateau Road or westbound Jay Road. These roads will stay open for resident access with exceptions, but travelers can expect shorter delays by going around the bike course.Travelers should plan for the following travel restrictions:
• Colo. 119 will stay open, but one lane of Boulder bound traffic will be closed from North 63rd Street to Jay Road. Delays are expected.
• Westbound Jay Road will be closed from Colo. 119 to 28th Street.
• Northbound U.S. 36 (28th Street) will be closed from Jay Road. to St. Vrain Road. Travelers heading north from Boulder to Lyons or Estes Park should take Colo. 119 to Longmont, go north on Hover Street, then west on Colo. 66. Or, take Colo. 119 to Nederland, go north on Colo. 72 to Colo. 7, then keep going north to Estes Park.
• Southbound 75th, 73rd and 71st streets will be closed from Hygiene Road to Niwot Road. Niwot Road will stay open for local access, but delays are likely.
• St. Vrain Road will be closed to through traffic, but residents will still be able to access their homes.
• Monarch Road will be closed from 55th to 71st Streets. Residents can access their homes via 55th and 63rd Streets.
• 63rd Street will be closed from Colo. 119 to Niwot Road from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents may access their homes via Niwot Road, but travelers will not be able to access Colo. 119.
• 51st and 55th Streets will be closed to through traffic from Niwot Road to Jay Road, but residents will be able to access their homes.
