Aurora police are seeking the public’s help in the homicide investigation of two men killed in a shooting and left in an alleyway in August.
Omar Williams, 25, and Kejuan Mays, 27, were found dead in an alleyway in the 2200 block of Galena Street at 7 a.m. Aug. 19. Both men had multiple gunshot wounds.
Police are still searching for the vehicle used to dispose of the bodies as well as any information about Williams’ and Mays’ whereabouts between 2 and 6 a.m. on Aug. 19, said Sgt. Jeff Longnecker.
The car, which belonged to Williams, is a 2016 silver Dodge Journey with Colorado license plate BSC-099. Itap unusual that police haven’t been able to locate the vehicle, Longnecker said at a news conference on Sept. 27.
“One of the things we’re really hoping for is that the public can keep an eye out for this vehicle,” Longnecker said. “We really emphasize the need to find this vehicle. We really feel itap going to help us get to a conclusion in this case.”
The Dodge may have different license plates and have the passenger-side rear hubcap missing, Longnecker said.
“If you see a vehicle that in any way matches this description, please reach out to us and we will go check it out,” he said.
Williams and Mays, who were friends, were out with acquaintances in downtown Denver until 2 a.m. on Aug. 19, which is the last place investigators have been able to pinpoint their location. There were no signs of fighting or any problems before they left the area, Longnecker said.
Williams’ parents, Femina and Antionio Hawkins, said he had just celebrated his 25th birthday. Williams had moved to Colorado for a year to save up money before he returned to college to finish a degree in computer science and programming.
“His life was cut short one week after his birthday,” Antonio Hawkins said. “We’re talking about a young man who would give you the shirt off his back, a young man who’s never gotten into a fight a day his whole life, a young man who always saw things in a positive manner.”
Mays was an “outstanding young man” who was good friends with Williams, Antonio Hawkins said.
Police do not know if the men’s deaths were random or if they knew who shot them, Longnecker said.
“All options are on the table right now,” he said.
Femina and Antonio Hawkins said they are begging anyone with information about their son’s death to contact police.
“The hardest part is that my son is no longer with me. I feel robbed of a lifetime of success I know he was aiming for,” Femina Hawkins said. “The hardest part is not knowing exactly how this happened to my child or for what reason it happened. Please, if you have any information in reference to this case, reach out to the Aurora Police Department.”
