Somebody broke into the crypt in a private mausoleum at Crown Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County overnight, pried open a coffin and stole portions of the body contained inside it, authorities said Wednesday.

Jefferson County sheriff’s officials said deputies were dispatched to the cemetery, at 7777 W. 29th Ave., at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday on a report of damage to a mausoleum. There, the deputies found “severe damage to the crypt front on a private mausoleum, as well as damage to the crypt and casket inside,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Investigators believe “unknown suspects” forced their way in overnight and stole body parts from the casket, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies searched the area but did not find the suspects, officials said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Jeffco sheriff’s tipline at 303-271-5612.
