Getting your player ready...

Three days before kickoff against Utah in the final game of the season, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders doesn’t know who will quarterback his team.

During his on Wednesday, Sanders said the status of starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders is still up in the air.

“We don’t know what Shedeur is going to do right now,” coach Sanders said. “He’s a little banged up, truly.”

CU (4-7, 1-7 Pac-12) will face the Utes (7-4, 4-4) in Salt Lake City on Saturday (1 p.m., Pac-12 Network).

Shedeur Sanders has started every game and last week set a new single-season school passing record (3,230 yards) in a 56-14 loss at Washington State. He left that game, however, in the second quarter with numbness in his right hand and an ankle injury.

If Shedeur Sanders can’t play, true freshman Ryan Staub is likely to get his first career start. Staub and walk-on Gavin Kuld both played after Sanders went out against Washington State.

Coach Prime also said Wednesday that star cornerback/receiver Travis Hunter and leading receiver Xavier Weaver are among several Buffs dealing with the flu this week.

Sapp on the way?

Itap been rumored for much of the season that Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive lineman Warren Sapp could be joining the CU coaching staff for next year. Deion Sanders seemed to confirm that Sapp will be with the Buffs during his radio show, although did not say in what capacity.

“I’m excited about coach Sapp,” Sanders said. “He’s a dear friend that I love to life. He’s going to be invaluable to what he brings to the table. The kids are going to love him, the recruits as well are going to love him.”

A video clip of that comment was posted on X and Sapp replied, writing, “Reinforcement is On The Way!!”

Sapp played nine seasons (1995-2003) with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and four (2004-07) with the Oakland Raiders during his career. He was first-team All-Pro four times and the NFL defensive player of the year in 1999. He was named the NFL All-Decade team for the 1990s and 2000s.

Sapp has not been a coach, but has been around the Buffs a few times this season. In September, he said on the Rich Eisen Show that he’s working on completing his college degree so he could join Sanders’ staff in Boulder.

Calling out NCAA

Running back Sy’veon Wilkerson and offensive lineman Tyler Brown both transferred from Jackson State to CU this year. And for both it was their second transfer.

Wilkerson received a waiver from the NCAA to play, while Brown did not, despite citing mental health reasons for his transfer and wanting to play.

On Wednesday, Wilkerson said it was a “terrible call” by the NCAA.

“I think after what Tyler went through, he should have been eligible this year and we definitely needed him; we could have used him,” Wilkerson said. “I feel like NCAA, they gotta do better with making decisions like that because itap a lot of kids that should have been eligible this year.

“There’s no consistency and it seems like they don’t care about athletes. So thatap what it is.”
