Colorado has added five games to its future nonconference football schedule, the program announced on Tuesday.

The Buffaloes will face Delaware on Sept. 6, 2025; Weber State on Sept. 12, 2026; Northern Illinois on Sept. 18, 2027; and Northern Colorado on Sept. 16, 2028, and Sept. 13, 2031.

All five games are slated to be played at Folsom Field in Boulder.

With CU’s announced move to the Big 12 this past summer, home-and-home sets with Big 12 members Houston (2025 and 2026) and Kansas State (2027 and 2028) were canceled, creating the openings in the schedule.

The schedule changes have reduced the amount of power conference opponents for the Buffs, as well, with four of the five new games being against FCS teams and Northern Illinois being in the Mid-American Conference.

“With our move to the Big 12 and having some of our existing home-and-home series turn into conference games, we had an opportunity to take a new approach to scheduling,” CU athletic director Rick George said in a press release. “With the expansion of the College Football Playoff, we want to be strategic leading into conference play with some Group of Five and FCS opponents earlier in the season. I am confident this strategy will give us the best chance at a berth in the CFP, an expectation and Coach Prime and I both share.”

The changes will also allow the Buffs to have more home games. Several power conference schools routinely have seven home games, but CU hasn’t had more than six in a season since 1982, when it had seven. The only other season with more than six was 1978 (eight home games).

As of now, CU is slated to have seven home games in 2025 and 2027, 2028 and 2030.

“Folsom Field is an amazing place for college football and one goal I’ve had is to create opportunities for more home games,” George said. “We haven’t had more than six home games since 1982 and just twice in our 134-year history, so I’m extremely excited to give our fans the opportunity to see us at home more often in the future.”

With Tuesday’s announcement, CU has 23 of 24 nonconference spots filled between 2024-2031. The only open date is the first week of the 2029 slate.
