Colorado is back in the top five.

On Monday, the CU women’s basketball team jumped three spots to No. 5 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll.

Itap the third time this season that CU has been in the top five, but the first time since sitting at No. 3 on Nov. 20. The Buffs (11-1) have been in the top eight for eight consecutive weeks.

The Buffs are coming off a 76-65 win against then-No. 12 Utah on Saturday in the Pac-12 opener. CU is on a five-game winning streak since losing to North Carolina State in the U.S. Virgin Islands on Nov. 25. NC State (13-0) remained at No. 3 in this week’s poll.

South Carolina is still at No. 1, although the Gamecocks are no longer receiving all 35 first-place votes. They got 34 this week, with No. 2 UCLA stealing a first-place vote after its win against then-No. 6 USC on Saturday.

NC State, Iowa and CU round out the top five. Baylor moved up four spots to No. 6, followed by LSU, Stanford, USC and Texas to cap the top 10.

Utah, at No. 15, is the only other Pac-12 team ranked, but Washington and Oregon State are both receiving votes.

CU will visit Arizona on Friday in Tucson (6 p.m. MT, Pac-12 Network).

Sherrod honored

CU point guard Jaylyn Sherrod was named the ESPN national player of the week after her performance against Utah.

A fifth-year senior, Sherrod scored a career-high 34 points, the most points by a Buff in nearly 13 years. Sherrod made 13-of-23 shots from the floor and 7-of-10 from the free throw line.

In addition, she had six steals, four assists, four rebounds and only turnover in 32 minutes on the court.
