Rockies launch new site to stream baseball games; cable television option yet to be announced

Major League Baseball will produce and distribute Rockies games through streaming service, with local blackout lifted

The Rockies’ long-anticipated plan for live-streaming the club’s games was unveiled Wednesday morning.

After months of speculation, , an online streaming service that will show all of the Rockies’ games this season. Major League Baseball will produce and distribute the games.

MLB will also remove blackouts for fans, meaning that for the first time, fans in the Rockies’ traditional TV territory will be able to livestream all of the club’s games.

As for the ability to watch games on TV, via a traditional cable channel, a Rockies spokesperson said that details regarding that plan will be announced in the future.

Prices for Rockies.tv are as follows:

• To stream Rockies games only, the price will be $19.99 per month or $99.99 for the season.

• The package of Rockies.tv plus MLB.tv, which would include Rockies games and all MLB games, is $39.99 per month or $199.99 for the season.

It is expected that most of the Rockies’ announcing team will return, except for Jenny Cavnar, a longtime contributor who is leaving to become the play-by-play announcer for the Oakland Athletics.

Games on Rockies.tv will include live, 15-minute pregame and postgame shows.

The Rockies opened spring training Wednesday with the first workouts for pitchers and catchers at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale, Ariz.

AT&T SportsNet Mountain Rocky Mountain had televised Rockies games since 1997, but last March, Warner Brothers Discovery, Inc. (WBD) announced it would cut off its rights payments to the Rockies, Houston Astros and Pittsburgh Pirates, whose games it aired through AT&T SportsNet.

Rockies games remained on AT&T SportsNet through the 2023 season, but the regional sports network officially shut down Dec. 31.

Last year, MLB stepped in to produce and distribute games for the San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks after the faltering Diamond Sports Group (DSG), which operates the Bally Sports network of RSNs, handed back the local rights to both teams last season after missing payments.
